      Tranquility on Lake Atitlan

This is an amazing place to stay on the lake, I stopped to check out the diving at ATI the only dive shop on the lake and was instantly drawn to the hostel, it is amazingly relaxing. This is to do with the great location, right on the lake and the very friendly staff, I thought I would staff for a day or two and stayed for 2 weeks. Highly recommended

What a treat! This was just a peaceful spot. Not much to the town above (we ventured up just because we were curious) but to just hang out and read a book and relax for a day or two, this place is perfect. And the hike over to San Marcos is a pretty easy walk and a good day trip.

From the villages I saw, Santa Cruz has the best waterfront access on Lago Atitlan. La Iguana Perdida is right on the water surrounded by a nice community of other accommodation and eating options.

An interesting couple of days from Placencia to Antigua that went something like this, Water Taxi, Bus, Water Taxi, overnight in Puerto Barrios, Bus, Shuttle arrive Antigua. This trip involved several changes and different modes of travel but overall it was reasonably straight forward. The water taxi from Placencia was only 15 minutes then a cab to …

Day 1: we farewelled our little Antiguan
apartment and got on an 8am shuttle to Panajachel (or as the locals call it
“Pana”). We bumped along the cobble stone road of Antigua and headed west to
Pana. The ride was about 2 hours and we were dropped off at the docks to get on
a ferry (small motor boat) to Santa Cruz. It was …

      Assignment #3
We've spent a weekend at famed Lago Atitlán, a beautiful location that's struggling to balance economic development and the impacts of tourism. Although tourism can serve as an economic engine, it can also be fraught with problems. What have you learned from our hosts? What does community tourism mean to you, and how has this …

We thought it was about time for another blog entry, or two, for this one I'm going to write about our last few days in Guatemala.

On Sunday, our 7th & final day of Espanol classes, we and our teachers were a bit over it, so after taking them out for Almuerzo (lunch) to say thanks, they took us on an excursion for the afternoon lesson …
