varieties of mushrooms, ferns and moss. On the way down we met up with an Adder
Snake which had just shed its skin.

The interesting part of the descent is that although it is
extremely steep and rocky, there are tracks that indicate that some maniacs
actually ride mountain bikes down these paths.

Eventually we arrived at a small group of chalets called
Gueuroz. These were probably holiday homes but a few ...

It is free parking but a chap named Pierre who was so accommodating even though he couldn't speak a word of English, and his wife look after the area and gave advise on how to get into the city. We were soon set up and our way to catch a short bus ride followed by a tram into the city centre. Having blue sky's and some occasional ...

... down 60 feet to the rocky bottom. Then, we reached the first ladder, about 14 feet high, set against the vertical wall. After making it successfully up that, there is a single metal step beside the ladder that I stepped onto to reach a second, shorter vertical ladder. At the top of that I had to move to a 20 foot bridge with a steel grate bottom and two cables along the sides. At the end of that was another vertical ladder and ...

Day 5. The Haute Route Cabane de Montfort to Cabane de Prafleurie

After a delightful breakfast we saddled up on what was to be our most arduous and challenging hike on the Haute Route. We were rather conflicted about which of the routes to choose because the most scenic route involved a 1hour+ detour because of a rock slide which would push our hiking time well over 8 hours. But what else are you going to do all day and we came to see ...

... snack, to have with drinks on our balcony. Lovely! Soaked up the mild conditions and great view for a while before I headed off for a shower while Mitch cooked up our much anticipated spaetzle dinner - It was a gastronomique masterpiece! For dessert – two more wonderful creations from the local patisserie (me – Le Savoyard, a raspberry, cake, cream combination; Mitch had Fleur de bois, a berry mousse creation). Heaven
