Just for interest the references to ‘local time’ are to help us stay aware of the fact that the trains operate on ‘Moscow’ time. I have my wrist-watch set for ‘Moscow’ time while the phones automatically change to the 6 local time zones we are travelling through).

Peter speaks very little English but fortunately Andrea has good English and along with Ds German we learn about Peters love for his div 2 German football team. Peter has lots of accessories with the team's purple livery on, glasses case, toothbrush, bottle opener and a mascot sheep called Shaun who is dressed up to the eyeballs in purple team livery including baby booties! We introduce Shaun to Dax (German for badger) and there are lots of laughs ...

The next day I'm awoken far too soon by loud whispering, but I can only hear one half of the conversation so I assume the guy is on the phone. As the conversation seems to be lasting forever I take a peak from under my blindfold/eye mask and see that it's a lad talking to his mum, and she's just that much better at talking in a hushed voice than he is! 4000km down and into my 4th time zone. The countryside is a little more hilly and the tracks are winding so that I get brief glimpses of the locomotive which is driving us ahead.
