... course in an hour and Jane is clearly determined not to return the canoe any later than one hour on the dot. Out of mischief, just at the end, I steer us onto a gravel bank, midstream and we arrive back 25 seconds late, she glares at me as if I have spoilt her opportunity for selection but agrees that it had been good fun.

Now getting in the boat didn't seem to be a problem, but getting out was another story. Jane tried first and couldn't achieve lift ...

... there was no one around so I popped into the info centre located at the bus station to get hold of their phone number and pick up a map. The lady behind the counter kindly offered to call them for me after telling me how unusual it was for the bus to be on time. There was a triathlon going on next to the hostel so they'd had problems getting their shuttle bus out but they were on their way! The guy who picked me up took me on a quick tour ...

... my alarm and taxi that I'd booked, managed to get another one and luckily made my bus, that was a close one!! So hungover!! Next stop was Townsville and a ferry to Magnetic Island then a local bus and eventually to Bungalow Bay. I was that tired I fell asleep on a beanbag. This hostel was based at an animal sanctuary so was doing a tour the following day. Met a girl GJ from Poole and a Scottish lad Paul, who knows Athena. I tell ye such a small world!! ... but the camp was well protected. The Pye's arrived mid-afternoon, set-up, just in time for arvo drinks.

Our neighbours were a couple into SUP's (Stand-Up-Paddleboards) and we soon got to know George and Di over the course of our sundowner drink session. A great couple of travellers from Newcastle, and we spent the three days with them paddling, drinking and dining!

... until we reach the coach. We reach the hotel again, I pass out in the lobby, and then we head on to The Passage, a long narrow club that kinda sucks. But we're all pretty drunk enough that we bind and still have a great time.
