After Chiang Mai, Sophie and I were really looking forward to a few days of relaxing on the islands. Despite having been in Thailand for 5 months, I had not yet seen those beautiful beaches from the postcards, so I couldn't wait to get my first taste of paradise.

One day we did manage to be active and decided to hire a moped (sorry Gill) and explore the island a little as we had heard about some prettier beaches and it only takes 20 minutes or so to get from one side to the other. We found some lovely small beaches, see pics below and managed to not ...

... the one we wanted by a new taxi driver who didn't know his left from his right. Eventually we did find the place, but of course it was closed, so we walked the main drag until we saw an unpretentious, no frills, all-you-can-eat hotspot/grill that was loaded with locals stuffing their faces. After eating so much pasta and pizza recently, this was the perfect alternative. Good thing it was open air too, cuz it was plenty muggy out. Our ...
