Gorilla land

... said .. hang on a minute I am ###$#@@ (stuffed) the gorillas can wait..

The gorillas were in deep jungle and a bit hard to spot, they were more like moving shadows.. the Silverback was impressive.. man those things are huge I really mean huge. The funny thing is autofocus on the camera does not work in the jungle and to focus on a black hairy thing in the shadows is very tricky hence very average ...

Natural beauty and...human horror

... I got a few mini bananas and then was intrigued by a vicks vapo rub colour and shape plastic bottle announcing it was the answer to Long and Lovely hair. Pourquoi pas.

Echalotte, on the other hand, was smitten by the idea of a fixture calendar for Arsenal. Which included pictures of the players and their “cribs” *we’ll ignore the fact a couple of players had the same crib and therefore the query as to the authenticity of these depictions*...after some ...

5) frustration at the problems that exist and the lack of having people that you 100% know you can trust to give the aid to

6) Killing an awkward silence in a mudhut with complete strangers by putting the IPOD on Michael Jackson. Thank you MJ !

... dorm rooms, and private rooms. When we first arrived, there was one of those music stages on a truck that was in the back jamming down. Apparently for a beer promo and they were also selling their beer to go along with it. Some convent huh? I didn’t see any person that resembled a nun or priest the entire three days of being there.

Gorilla Tracking in Volcanoes Nat Park, Rwanda

... when a mother gorilla walks past with her baby clinging to her back, and then laying down and letting it climb up on her belly to nurse. Another gorilla was feeling frisky, and jumped up in front of us and did the classic beating of the breasts with her fists like you have seen in every Tarzan movie ever made. The cutest thing is that shortly afterwards her baby imitates her movements. Precious!

This family ...

... activities – which at this point consist of eating and lounging. They gradually all come down out of the tree and move a short distance away. We whack through the brush to get to within sight of them again. Then we all sit for the longest time, just appreciating watching a small baby gorilla eat and peek up at us (we always stayed higher up on the hill than the gorillas so it is not possible for them to jump on us), and the silverback watching over his brood.

... of my guides. We went throught little trails, villages, and weverywhere I went all people went out to greet me. The boys taught me how to say "hi, how are you, I am fine, thank you' in their laguage, and everybody was totally delighted to hear me speak it. Just before reaching the 'pigmey village' we sat on the ground and I shared with them teh two sandwiches, samosas, and oranges that I had. It wasn't much, but the biggest boy made sure everybody got some. The ...

... ended up trekking for over 2 and a half hours which involved us trudging through creeks, up steep mountains and then through shrub which our trackers were cutting oaths for us as we walked. When we arrived to where the area around where the family had been spotted we first came across a one and a half year old baby climbing up the tree...It was sooo cute. We then had to maneuver our way around more trees and were able to view another 10 gorillas from the ...

Kisoro....visiting with the kids

Yay..have been able to add photos to my previous entry about the gorilla trek, check them out! We got back from our gorilla trek around 1:00 PM and packed up camp, it was time to head to Kisoro. The drive to Kisoro was beautiful with amazing views of the Lake Bunyonyi and the volcanoes. The drive went through many small villages and was entirely on dirt roads. On our way into Kisoro we passed a large UN refugee camp with many tents, all likely housing ...

Gorillas

After a short stop in Nairobi we crossed over into Uganda. Wow, what a beautiful country. So green and lush. Rolling hills. Every scrap of land is cultivated, even the steepest slopes are terraced to grow crops such as sugar cane, tea coffee beans and maize. The people are so friendly and colorful and work so hard. It is hard to understand why the country is so poor. It is obvious that the people have very little for themselves, yet as ever they are so happy. Our main ...
