... t remember it ever being on TV before... but perhaps because the cast had recently been interviewed together and that was part of the package. We had it on throughout the afternoon, and it was a great way to while away a quiet NYD. I sought out the DVD after that, to no avail at the time. As luck would have it - this being the 50th anniversary year - new DVDs were produced - so I picked one up a couple of months ago. I think I'll watch it on New Year's Day. :) When I was going ...

... the market - enjoying not only the stalls of everything one could possibly imagine: sausages, cheeses, wicker art baskets, brooms, finely embroidered linens... Not only was there incredible variety - but the sheer size of the market (blocks it seemed) was daunting. Also, the colours were so enjoyable. The picture of my journal is a reminder to me why I want to go digital. :) ...

    ... it works better)

    1st July

Spent the morning exploring the Festung Hohensalzburg, which is the huge, impenetrable fortress that dominates the skyline of Salzburg. We took the funicular up to the top where there are amazing views of all of Salzburg on one side and of the mountains on the other. There is a lot to do there and we started with the museum which is well done and interesting. The fortress dates back to the ...

Sound of Music Tour and Austrian countryside

Barry's view- well this was the day that Sandy was waiting for. We took an eight hour tour with six others in a van to the locations where they filmed the Sound of Music. Lots of tour groups doing the same thing. That movie has been a big boon for Austrian tourism. Photos below of the gazebo, the wedding church, and Sandy skipping down the tree lined lane like Maria. But truly the best part of the tour was driving in the beautiful mountain country and lake towns. We stopped for lunch at ...
