... things that caught my eye; the red-and-black bullring in Rimac; waterfront development in Miraflores; the distinctive green-and-white trains winding over the long bridge, El Tren Electrico, the Lima Metro. Something particular caught my eye: a vast expanse built up with walls, a sort of maze constructed from pale concrete, a strange city within the city. I asked Antonio about it. Ah, he said, good timing, that is where we go next. That is the Cementerio General de El Angel, one of ...

... the streets close to it and was rounded off with a pisco tasting. We met an English couple, Joe and Debra, on the tour and arranged to meet up again for dinner that night. They suggested going to the same place we'd been the previous night and since it was so damn good we were happy to go back. Our next stop -- Easter Island. I doubt that we would ever have gotten to the Island by any way other than cruising. See you ...

It's not that long I'm spending here but I'm not too keen on cities and this one in particular has a dodgy rep as a dangerous place to be for locals and foreigners if they're not careful. This impression was reinforced by my guide this morning who, as we were driving to the hotel in the taxi, said that you should always sit directly behind the driver as it is more ...

... only a one hour time difference for us. Our hotel, 3B Barranco Bed & Breakfast, is only a few blocks from the ocean so we decided to take a bit of a scenic tour today to get our legs stretched out and our heads acclimated to the new country.

Animal report: Over the course of several hours of walking around, we saw about 2 dozen dogs, most of them prancing off-leash near their owners. We saw a huge flock of pelicans working the ocean shallows ...
