          Back to the Baltic

With a 7am cross-country bus to catch, I had set my alarm for 6am. Sadly I was woken by snoring at 4am and couldn't get back to sleep so I got up before the alarm went off. After packing the last of my things and scoffing a quick croissant for breakfast, I made my way to the bus station in the dawn light. The 6 hour bus ride to Nida on the Baltic coast was uneventful and I managed to get a couple of hours of (somewhat ...

          Yet, another long bus journey

There seems to be a pattern happening here. I actually took a bus back up to an area I had previously travelled through, only this bus was less classy than the last. Old & dated, no A/C and the engine screamed if the driver tried to take it above third gear - not that there was much call for that - as most of the larger roads (highways) had roadworks - so another 6hr journey that could ...

          6 Months

I have now been in Poland for 6 months. I still don't think it's really hit me. Nothing has hit me. Not even the jet lag. Oh I guess that one car almost hit me. I don't think that should count though. Oh look. Cold tea. I never drank tea in Canada and now it's a daily occurance. Ugh. I should not have just tasted it. Not so tasty. I used to hate tomatoes too but now I will purposely get them out of the fridge and put them on my open ...

After crossing the border we aimed for the first major town, Suwalki, to obtain funds in the local currency. Up to this point the roads weren't too bad - of course this was a major International route. Our initial attempts to follow the parking signs and find the town centre failed as we kept driving past it. Only later did we realise the problem was that the centre ...

          Campsite Victoria

Rather than head straight into Poland, we decided that we had to stop at a campsite called "Victoria" before leaving Lithuania. The campsite was next to a lake which formed a border with Russia - there were even notices from the border police at the beach warning swimmers not to go out beyond the boys! To assist in using up our remaining Polish money we opted for lunch at the site cafe. Initially we only found the Polish menus which ...
