    Flaming rocks and steamy air

It was hot and humid. "Simar" is a local term for these conditions. Muggy, I would say.

We cycled about 5Km from our campsite to the base of hill and the park entrance. The fee was a very reasonable 6TL each.

We walked up a steep, stony path for about 20 minutes. despite some creaking bones I was pleased the lungs didn't complain too much except when we were walking behind people who were smoking! ...

... the top,a series of flames, like campfires, flickered out of cracks between the rocks. He said that if you dig, you could create another hole with flames coming out. Young people sat in small groups around the fires, some singing, some drinking, some roasting marshmallows. It was a party scene! "I am sweating," said the hotel owner, so we sat and rested for a little bit, me a decent amount of space away from him. Don't get any ideas. When he said we ...

... dark for 40 minutes we arrived at the site, were given torches and told to walk up the mountain for 20 minutes. Like doing the thousand steps without the well formed steps and in the dark. When we arrived the flames, although an interesting phenomenon were a bit like sitting around campfires. Still, glad we saw it.

Received more sad news. Our beautiful pet pooch, Ziggy has passed away. The house won't be the same without her.

... was hard enough over the very uneven rocky path. (Not much in the way of a decent photo though!) Today we wandered through the ruins of Olympos...one of many sites that go by the name! It was fabulous, close to the beach and a stream...the ruins were scattered through thick forest and in many places overgrown. Cirali is a small coastal town, but it has it's fair share of pensions, hotels and cafes. Lots of families wandering about...a great place to relax for a few ...

    Turkey and the Med

... Our food highlight was a Fish Sandwich place which had delicious fish and catered to Turks - much better than our last experience with fish in Istanbul! While in Antalya it was May 1 (Workers' Day) and there were plenty of spirited marches around the town ranging from Ataturk's party to communists. We did some good walking up and down the coast each day in differing directions and covered quite a few kms. If anyone is to stay here ...
