      Still in Skoudas

At the moment, we are visiting family around Skoudas. I am very touched by how excited they are to meet us and welcome us to their homes. It is good to see that the lives of all the families have improved significantly since our last visit, but I did not realise how bad Lithuania was hit during the GFC. With the assistance of European Union money, things are ...

      Walking off the family hospitality

... see for miles in all directions - or I should say kilometres! I really did not realise from our last visit in winter that Skoudas had a large lake in the town. In this very hot weather (for them!) of 29 degrees, families are at the lake, swimming and fishing. Of course, it is the long school holidays, so it is much more relaxed. 20 July 2014 Sunday was still in Vilnius with Vytaute. We had a leisurely morning, then went for a walk in the forest which is very close to the centre of Vilnius. It is by the river and quite a few of the Embassies are also here. I enjoyed walking under the trees, but it is surprising how dense the forest actually is. It was also lovely to see how many families also come to enjoy a beautiful day. We made today a bit of a rest ...

... masks doing an insane choreography which was synchronized with the VJ'ing, and some cool special effects.

On a critical note: there was a little too much electronic music going on at the festival, and not enough live music making. And for some reason, each main sponsor found it necessary to have its very own DJ-stage, which resulted in four loud stages blaring bad music without an audience side-by-side. Still, we managed to keep dancing until around 5 ...

      Karosta Prison

... revolution so this building was converted. It was later used by the Soviet, German and the Latvian armies until 1997. The prison mainly housed minor offenders for 2-30 days in small cells of 40-50 people! The prisoners had to be busy at all times; learning discipline, marching, politics etc or cleaning the prison, they were not allowed any time to themselves. At night they were given wooden mattresses to sleep on if they had behaved. For toilets, the entire prison ...
