Day 5: Backside of the Mountain

... press against the wall of a house--just hoping my camera and guitar won't get soaked... and I won't catch a bad cold from this sudden switch from hot to cold weather. Finally the rain lightens a bit, so I hurry on to the next town of Fiorentino, where I find a gazebo at a park where I can play my next parkbench concert out of the rain. Fiorentino, again, is more of a scattering of houses and modern buildings on the steep slopes of Moutn Titano. I ...

Day 4: The Castle

... far, far below… I continue on to the second castle, and along the narrow ridge to the third-- which is little more than a tower… Then I head on back… It looks like there’s a footpath down the cliff so I go to check it out. It takes me through a slit between two huge rocks and to the bottom of a cliff popular with rock climbers… But I can’t go any further down, so I climb back up to the top ridge. I wander around San Marino ...

1625. End of the San Marino Superhike (Italy 283)
Coriano, July 30, 2013, Day 252
6 hrs, 19.4 kms
Day Totals: 16 hrs, 33.4 kms

Crossing into Italy is immediately obvious. The road gets worse, and the path in the woods running parallel to it ends. Trash appears by the side of the road. Gone is the feel of "this is our little country and we all must work together to make it work"... sigh...

Again, I find myself in a frazione of a town, not ...

Day 2: Rimini

... like a place I could call home… But there’s something else about Rimini… This looks like the launching pad for conquering my 29th country, San Marino! All the more reason to consider this town home. So when I reach the Rimini Station, I make a beeline for the nearest Tourism Office, get directions to my hostel, ask about buses to San Marino and ask for, yes, a map. Call me a wuss, but I’m doing it the easy way this time! I quickly find ...

Day 1: Crossing the Rubicon

... crossing a stream. What? Really? Yep, it's the Rubicon. Back in 2009 "crossing the Rubicon" in Savegnano was a chance for me to reflect on my life, how far I've gone, and what things I'll never turn back to again. Now, 4 years later I "cross the Rubicon" again--this time as a part of a Superhike... so I have a chance to ponder on how far I've gone since 2009. Back in 2009 my Global Parkbench Tour was just 2 years old. I was still working out ...
