Drove from Vienna to Sopron in Hungry to have our 20th wedding anniversary lunch of a salad roll and takeaway coffee in our warm car. Then drove through the eastern end of Slovenia into northern Croatia. First time we've been in four countries in one day.we noticed a big variation between countryside and house styles from one Country to another. Stopped at Varazdin for the night and walked that evening in the light rain around this mystical historic town. Quite romantic ...

... occupation - almost 10%25 of its population. I had my first extensive look at my sisters property, tucked between the forest line and a beautiful vineyard on hills that reminded me of Hobbiton. My niece was excited to show me the fresh strawberries growing in the field, and we had great fun playing around on the farm. That afternoon my mum, sister, niece and I sat outside in lawn chairs and had our first real 'family time' of the trip. We figured we where on holidays and one day late to Split wasn't going to worry us. Better to play ...

... and packets of chocolate pudding. With careful selection and some slight alterations, I was able to piece together something that resembled a meal! In the afternoon we braved a big thunderstorm and dropped by my sisters house for a visit. She had prepared some food for us and gave us a tour of her house. It being an old rural farm-house, there was a certain amount of history and a lot of neat rooms to explore. In the evening we went for ...

    Last full day in Varazdin

    ... over the
    centuries. Well worth a visit.
By now we were ready for a late lunch
in the city centre. This was in a little restaurant in a back alley.
I had small squid with grilled vegetables whilst Alison had a pork
dish with salad. Both were divine but we are not used to big meals
in the middle of the day and my stomach does not seem to know what to
    do with them.
    The weather remained threatening but
not actually raining so we visited ...
