... but surely, we made it. The sign at the top of the climb was a stone with a plaque about La Bonette. We were a bit disappointed. Being the highest altitude climb of our itinerary, we were hoping for something more showy. How inconsiderate! There was a small gravel track up to a lookout. We decided to walk this bit. It was a wonderful panorama. The mountains around here all look so barren. We admired the view, along with our friends Starsky and Hutch ...

We woke on Friday morning and decided it was time to move on! The weather forecast for Nice was bad for a few days so we decided to head to Italy. Despite plenty of evidence of crashes with damaged guard rails and roadside memorials, we haven't actually seen any accidents, other than a rear ender in the heavy traffic approaching Genoa. Given the degree of tailgating, we are somewhat surprised! We pull off the highway to find a town for lunch. First place has one ...

Monday Up and ready to hit the road out of Peille by 8.30. A slightly easier conversation with Dennis this time, helped by our new translator app called 'I Translate'. He asked what we did in Australia, how we found it driving, and was touched that we had bought him a plant...grovelling for the inconvenience we caused! He was quite friendly. Has a niece travelling and studying in Australia who'd sent him a boomerang which is on the wall, and ...
