Today Gitta and Paula drove us over the big Afsluitdyke! I've been wanting to see this! We stopped at the monument and took in the views. There is a monument to the man Lely who was behind the dyke being built. The dyke is 7m above average sea level and about 30km long. Quite a lot of people driving and cycling across today. We stopped a bit further along to have our lunch on the dyke. Very nice. Next a drive down through Friesland to ...

They were super accommodating and made every effort to make us feel welcome.

A nice sleep in today followed by a visit to the nearby Golden Angel Mill. Piet and Lisbeth took us in the car. Fantastic to see them change the sails to face the wind and see it working from the inside. A family BBQ at Piet and Ans tonight with Liesbeth and Maike and families. Followed by party fireworks care of ...

... the men would lift them up onto a cart to be transported. Then a bit of a look through the old town at all the shops. Beautiful buildings and architecture and narrow paved streets. After that Piet took us through the canals of Alkmaar to see a bit more of the town. We had to duck our heads to get under some of the bridges! We stopped and had lunch under a shady tree opposite the Catholic ...
