... all of these were prominent in Haridhwar and there were many foreign tourists who came here to learn these things.Special classes and ashrams are present for the purpose. ... Whether I 'got' Rishikesh or not we had tired legs and so spent three days there generally wandering about and eating lots of cake. Our visit coincided with Diwali the celebration of which is helped along with the unrestrained use of fireworks. What Indian fireworks lack in variety, colour and pyrotechnic glitz they certainly make up for with noise, BANGS were the order of the night (and day) and these echoed around he valley from early evening until morning.
