... just entered France. So here I am now in France, two days earlier than planned, on a site where I hadn't planned on staying, with a very sore foot. Actually its not as bad as it sounds. This site at Estavar is lovely, and is only 1km from a Spanish enclave (I had never heard of an enclave but it appears to be a town surrounded by France but still claiming to be Spanish). From my pitch next to a mountain stream bubbling down over rocks I can hear the ...

We arrived this afternoon after driving via Toulouse. The drive up the mountains takes two hours and is a combination of winding roads and tunnels a few times all you could see was a mountain 100 metres ahead and no obvious road until you go around a bend. ... she totally renovated with lovely turquoise shutters and standing on top of a ridge. Sitting on the terrace having lunch and looking across at the range of the Pyrenees was spectacular even if the weather was rather hazy.
Some friends took us to a cave that was a significant part of the Cathare history. The Cathares are a religious group, who were wiped out by the Catholic Church through the King in the 13th century. They used the the basement ...

    Never a dull moment

Things are never dull for long here. There are always new people arriving, either owners of the other apartments or others arriving in the neighbourhood. An eclectic mix of English, Irish, Dutch with a smattering of French... oh and the builders are Spanish!!

I had a lovely Easter Sunday lunch at Cathy and Tony's who have an old mill house on the banks of the river. We were 8 for drinks and 6 for lunch. Rae has arrived. She is the friend who introduced ...
