This was the best hotel on our trip. We had a balcony (great for drying our washed clothes) but no view. This hotel had the only double bed on our whole trip. Overall is was impeccable but the shower curtain had some questionable stains on it.

Santorini has a great cliff walk overlooking the caldera. Paved paths and trails connect the main village of Fira all the way to Oia at the far end of the island. We decided to break up the hike into two days so we could add on Skaros Rock, so day one we went from Fira to Imerovigli and then back again.

This first day we had to figure out our transit system - public buses and cabs mixed in with a ride from the hotel every ...

... the cliff face to the old port. No signs anywhere?? Winged it, headed to the cliff face and stuck our heads out to see if we could see any cables. Bang in the distance, fingers crossed. Still are fair trek and time was starting to slip away. We made the carts with seconds to spare. The view once again amazing. As we were pushed for time we needed something quick. I opted for a pork souvlaki as the waiter said it'd ...

Nea Kameni is the newer of the two islands in the middle of the volcano, formed long after the big eruption 3,500 years ago. It is constantly changing with the last eruption being just over sixty years ago. How often does the volcano erupt? About once every seventy years...

... the ferries were sold out. By "ferries" I mean two ships that depart twice in the morning, that's it. If you miss the ferry you are stuck on Crete, so at this point we started to be a little concerned. We decided to get to the port as early as possible and stand in line for tickets.

We have learned that the Greeks are very laid back when it comes to deadlines and timetables. The ferry we wanted started boarding at 8:00, ...

... from what I saw Kamari appears to be the cheap backpacker-ish area of Santorini. The beach has black 'sand' and it was soooo windy that the water looked really scary. The wind was creating really choppy big waves that were smashing onto the beach and into the rocks at the end of the beach. But if it had been a nicer day I think it would be an ok place to be (Naxos is still my ideal beach/water place so far).

    All along ...
