The night before
School's out, work is on pause and the cottage industry is closed for Christmas. It's finally here after months of waiting and we're all beside ourselves with excitement.
The bags are packed (with space to spare thanks to Annette's frugal choice of clothes) and we have even managed to find room for Ellie much to Esther's relief.
We've got so many exciting new experiences ahead of us crammed into a 7 week trip. South East Asia here we come!

Morning of NY
... of being late especially where aviation is concerned, would be a little rattled by the little woman at our service and should by default be reassuring us that we will catch the flight no matter what, I tried to go into the bedroom to reassure her. It was too late. Stress had hit her face like a wet gibbon and all I could do was match that with a moan about the transporter woman who had brought so much cheer to our doorstep. We arrived at Malc and Ce's met by ...
Liverpool.....Yeh, Yeh, Yeh
How is England different from the US?
The USA has a Kidney Bank, while England has a Liverpool.
OK, let's finish our groaning and get on with this, the latest installment of our blog. According to the map, Liverpool, on the Mersey River, was just a few hours north of Bath, but with flooded rail tracks, getting there proved to be a major headache. We, together with hundreds of others anxious to get to their respective destinations on this Friday ...
Liverpool is way cool :-)
... another dozen times upon knocking back his whiskeys. Jo his mate was giving him a heap of **** and telling us about the lay of the land here all the while Simons having a great old chuckle playing his shots on the pool table. Played a few games of pool then headed home for the night. Next day checked out the city centre and walked around the dock area which was pretty cool and took a few pics. then in the evening did a mini ...
Easy day =)
I was lucky enough to have an amazing nights rest following my little day trip in Liverpool. I knew I didn't want to do much as I was going to be leaving on the 31st for Scotland. One thing I was dying to see was Formby Beach. I had heard so much about it, and I wanted to be by the water! So after a very lazy (can't even say leisurely here it was lazy) start to the morning, Uncle Dave, Holly Dog and I set out to Formby Beach. First to walk to the beach ...

Historical Traveler Reviews The Rossi Blackpool
Home from home
I am another who stayed at the Hotel Rossi before reading the reviews here and I have to say, had I read the reviews beforehand I would have gone there anyway because it's clear that something doesn't quite add up with two vastly differing sets of opinions posted here, however the majority of reports are positive and reflect my experiences.
Unlike the reviewer from Newcastle I didn't detect any animal smells nor see any evidence of any animals other than a stuffed dog in the lounge window which lots of passers-by stop to admire - and it didn't smell either!
I've read the review by the folks from Scotland too and must also say that I could not fault the cleanliness and certainly would never have gone out and bought sleeping bags had I not been satisfied with the state of the beds - would you?
Yes, the breakfasts were lovely and Malcolm, the guy in charge was a most charming and entertaining host. I thoroughly enjoyed my friendly chats with him in the bar before retiring each evening and felt very sorry for him when he told me what he had been through with a previous manager there. Makes me wonder if the negative reports here might not be from a disgruntled ex-employee because for me, the Rossi team could do no wrong! I'll be back for sure and wouldn't hesitate for a second to recommend it as a temporary home from home for anyone visiting Blackpool!
Superb hotel
Having stayed at this hotel before reading the reviews, i find it hard to believe these people are talking about the same place. We were made to feel very welcome indeed, and we could not think of a single bad thing to say about the place. The food was excerlent, the staff very friendly and the rooms were clean and tidy, and the added bonus of free parking.I think if people want 5 star luxury then they should try the Dorchester!!!
We would certainly not hesitate to stay here again, and will do so next time we visit
Exceptionally friendly and comfortable
My girlfriend and I have just spent a week at this hotel and we could not fault it in any way. It is right in the middle of all the action, on the seafront, and the owner and all staff could not have been more helpful. As you walk in the door you are offered a welcoming tea or coffee and there is no smell of animals ( as described in a previous review ). The rooms are large and well laid out and catered for all of our needs. The breakfast is well worth the visit as are all of the meals. A lot of hotels in Blackpool just give you your breakfast and thats it, not with the Hotel Rossi, as the waitress is always checking on you to see if you want more tea or toast. After reading some of the reviews on Trip Advisor I could not understand what the problem was as everything is so clean and tidy.I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anybody of any age, gender or race, and will be going back there without a moments hesitation.
Pleasure in Blackpool
During a visit to Blackpool my wife and I had the pleasure of staying in Hotel Rossi. We were accommodated in room 16, a double room on-suite, which had a delightful view of the beach and the illuminations.
The manager was very helpful and attentive providing advice on events and attractions. The food was delicious and only served to enhance the experience. The hotel was very clean and tidy and the toy dog in the window was noticed by all passers-by.
I had not been to Blackpool for almost 10 Years and with the exception of the rain (we got soaked in a downpour while at the Pleasure Beach - and then again on Valhalla and the Log Flume), the whole visit proved highly enjoyable. We checked several hotels prior to settling on the Rossi and it was the best decision we could have made.
When we next make the journey I will definitely be booking into the Rossi.
Very Welcoming
I have just stayed at the Hotel Rossi and fully recommend the place. The owner/manager and staff were very friendly indeed, making us feel very welcome and the location of the hotel, right on the seafront near central pier is superb.
I found the hotel to be clean, including the travel cot provided for our 1.5 year old toddler (we brought our own with us because in other hotels we have found them to be substandard, but not at this hotel, so our own never left the car).
I have read some of the other reviews of this hotel and have to strongly disagree on some points made against the Rossi. The room we had was of more than adequate size (certainly as big as I would expect at a hotel on Blackpool's promenade - perhaps some people expect the same size as in a 5 star purpose built Hilton).
I also detected no smells of Animals, depite this being advertised as a pet friendly hotel. If I had read one of the reviews here before going I may have cancelled, but then to say that the smell of animals made her husband feel physically sick is so over the top, and more a descrition of horse stables, that I may have dismissed it anyway. No, in my experience the hotel was very clean, and I have been in a lot worse that don't welcome family pets.
So, thumbs up for me, I shall be going again.
Out of this world
Me,my husband and son have just spent 5 days at the Rossi. The manager Malcolm and his staff are warm and friendly. You couldn't ask for nicer people.
The hotel itself is warm, clean and spotless. Not a smell of animals at all, like others have said. The minute you walk through the door you are made very welcome, everybody can't do enough for you.
Even though pets where there when we where, they where well looked after by owners & staff, well behaved. I didn't relise they where there until i saw a dog in the bar.The breakfast was excellent.
Anyone giving this hotel bad reports doesn't like pets and needs to have there eyes tested.
We will certainly use this hotel again and again for many years to come.A++++++++++++++++++++++++++ malcolm.
Can't be beaten, best food, best everything.
Having just been to stay at 'The Rossi'I can honestly say that my partner and I were treated as though we were family members. The rooms were very clean and the staff friendly. Breakfast was plentiful and served promptly by the ever helpful staff. The proprietor, Malcolm, was a brilliant chap and nothing was too much trouble for him to make our stay pleasurable. I will not hesitate to return there and have recommended 'The Rossi' to all my friends and family..
Recommend the Rossi !
Having just spent two days at the Rossi hotel on blackpools sea front with wonderful views of the Irish sea I can only say on behalf of myself husband and children that we found the hotel to be warm friendly and inviting. The manager and his staff could not of been more helpful in accomodating us. On arriving the hotel was warm and clean and not a smell of animals anywhere as some people have reported. We were taken into the bar where we were able to get refreshments for all the family. The children felt comfortable enough to immediately play on the pool table unlike in other hotels you are made to feel on ceremony and totally on your best behaviour. We were given our keys even though we had arrived early and had the option to leave our car and luggage and take in the sights or just relax in the lounge area which again was spotlessly clean. when we got to the rooms allocated to us we found them to be of high standard for the price bracket of blackpool accomodation, the rooms were tidy and clean had clean towels and all facillities for making our stay comfortable. The breakfast was of a very high standard and the service excellent. The manager was charming and witty as were all of the staff. as i am a northen girl i found the managers humor very amusing. Even after we had checked out the hospitality continued as we were able to leave the car once again(this is a huge bonus in Blackpool as parking is horrendous) and still come back and use the facillities which is great when you have children who get tired and need the toilet. I can only again say that i found the Rossi to be one of the best hotels we have stayed in on our many visits to Blackpool and will certainly be using it again and hope that it continues to be the family/pet friendly hotel that it is right now and i will certainly recommend it toall my friends.
Hotel not clean
We have just returned from a four night stay at Hotel Rossi and it has been the worst holiday we have had for a long time.
I had booked 4 Rooms. First room being for my pal, husband and a small child, second room for myself, mum and sister, third room for 2 more pals and fourth room for another 2 pals. On arriving at the hotel the welcome we got put us all off straight away the little man was not clean and when you walked into the sitting area this was not much better. He was pleasant enough this was all he had going for him. He then started to give us the keys for the rooms but at this point their seem to be changes the room for my pal, husband and child had been overbooked which then meant he had to offer them another room with just a double bed we execpted it has he said it would only be for the one night. I then said to him that he promised me he would put a small bed in for the child he said that this would happen the next day. The rooms for my other friends were changed from twin rooms to rooms with double and single beds this was ok.
We were not showed to our rooms so we all headed upstairs to take a look and what a shock. The room for me, my mum and sister was appalling on booking this with him i assured him that we were not kids i am 35 and my sister is 39 this room should only have been a double room. It was smelly and very small not big enough for the 3 of us. The toilet was tiny you could hardly move. The carpet had not been hoovered really the carpet should have been in bin by the look of it. The tops of the small bedside units were dirty also the cups and spoon were disgusting again the bin would have been the best place for these. We then decided to look at the beds the double had been changed but the bed itself was ready for the tip, then we checked the single bed and what a shock the covers had not even been changed the tv also was no good for the room because of were it was. By this time we were very unhappy with the outcome. I decided that i was going downstairs to ask for the bed to be changed and also for the room to be hoovered yes it got done but still did not make it any cleaner. We went out to a supermarket that night and purchased some cleaning items and air freshner to make it smell a bit better but due to seeing what the single bed was like we could not sleep in the double we just lay on top. The other four adults in the party had said that the rooms they were in could have been alot cleaner. The room that my pal and husband and child were being moved into had dogs in it but when they got moved it had been cleaned up. On going down for breakfast the next morning the two dogs were also in dining room this again put us all off during eating the dogs were barking which was so annoying. My sisters friend and two children were coming for a few days also so when they arrived we had a look at the room they had been given and it was a bit bigger so we done a swap. Still it was not clean but we put up with it. We still never slept inside the beds we went and purchased sleeping bags. The thing also that we were disappointed with was that the rooms were not cleaned right on a daily basis the bins were never emptied.
What i must say about it was that the breakfast was lovely.
The hotel is situated at a nice bit but it just needs a complete makeover which would make a big difference to it. Hopefully this will happen in the future and we could come back
Disgusting got treated as an idiot
Rooms are poky and shabby, owner is rude and insincere and not very welcoming at all..
They don't even have a room to put there own portable cot up, thats how small the rooms are.
They double book rooms and make you feel its your fault, so i recommend to everyone do not go to this hotel
