After chatting to the elderly gentleman for some time (he seemed delighted to be talking with foreigners and didn't want to let us go!), we went back out into the street (free of our big packs!) and stumbled upon the Feria de Chillan (large, sprawling artesanal market - apparently one of Chile's best markets) which was great - it was good to see artesanal goods that were different to the norm, and nearly all seemed homemade!
