... and rather like an English seaside town, except that the shops sell foccacias and pizza. Our hotel is half a block from the beach but most of the stoney beach areas require you to pay to get in. You can hire a deck chair too, if you pay. We walked to the "old" town but didn't explore very much more. John picked up a paninni for dinner and sat on the balcony and ate it. ... we ended up there after dinner, three subway lines later, for sunset. I learned two important things my first day in Europe: (1) the world is incredibly difficult to navigate without internet access & (2) Kelly & I might as well have a stamp on our forehead that says "American" Overall, I really enjoyed Milan. After a leisurely breakfast we caught a water taxi to the station,much quicker than the ferry, boarded our train and off we went.Arrived in Milan at 1,30 and were at our Hotel Sanpi by 2 pm,had a bit of a rest and went out for lunch and a look around.Found ourselves in the middle of the city where there are lots of old buildings and a statue of Leonardo DeVinci which is right near the beautiful old shopping plaza,pretty spectacular. ... set up, we were advised where the best pitches were and found one overlooking a very wide canal. So much so that as we sit here having lunch a large container ship sails past not 50 metres away.
