Lake Como in the Rain

... it, so they recommended a cafe further along the lakeside. 20 minutes walk later, we were sitting there, drinking our coffees and cokes, and watching the swans and ducks on the lake. A short walk further to the next ferry stop - and the heavens opened again, only this time it was torrential. Once on the ferry we could barely see the shore!

Getting back to Como was stopped at a restaurant / gelaterie for a lovely lunch, and by 2:30 we were in the car ready to start the ...

Raining, again. Quite hard if the noise from the drain was anything to go by. Becomming an expert on gauging the weather by the noise from next doors gutter. As the day progressed, there were monentary lapses, but then the thunder and lightening would return with a vengence, and you were pleased you hadn't sucumbed to the temptation to go for a walk!

We reached Como at about 5pm, and checked into our hotel. That left us time to walk down to the quay, have a drink at a cafe popular with the local sparrows, and wend our way to a delightful restaurant round the corner from the hotel. ... it was time for gelati as we strolled the very pretty town of Bellagio. We returned to the waterline and checked out return times for the ferry before wandering further around the edge of the lake where there is a lovely boardwalk and garden. ... in Italy. Based on the traditional latin cross, and adnorned with marble, frescoes and paintings, it also housed a series of exquisite 16th and 17th C tapestries.

Pliny the elder and Pliny the younger, both of Pompeii fame, were born in Como......now that surely will win me a trivia game in the future!

Back on the "fast" boat to Bellagio, where we had apero by the lakeside before catching the bus back to Lezzeno.
