Tourist, you are not in Spain

... sometimes occurs here, and how I should consider the new relationships that were forming. I left him at a cafe, after a delicious cafë con leche, with his Woody Allen book and oversized walking stick. I sincerely hope I see him again along the route, and I hope at this moment he is still on the camino, heading towards Santiago.

I walked alone most of the day. In the beginning however, almost aimmediatly after hugging George goodbye, i ran into a group of very fiesy middle ...

Late Start

... headed off.

I spent about half of the day walking with George, at a very slow pace. I felt so bad for him, he seemed to be in so much pain. We took a memorable break on the side of a path with an amazing sweeping view of fields that, eventually, ran into craggy mountains. We talked candidly, as I find myself doing often on this trip. it seems most people have found themselves here out of some desire to change, question or cope with something about ...

Later in the day as we sat drinking cafe con leche outside a cafe in a small village further along one of our felllow travellers, Bernard from Mosel in France, caught up with us. He had taken a flask of wine so ...

A rainy day

We'll remember this stage for the amount of mud we accumulated in our legs. It was an awkward day, at least this stage was pretty easy but the beginning (a huge climb with a lot of mud).

We founded the main refuge in Estella newly renovated, clean, with all the facilities... a nice place where we met people from Italy, Germany and New Zealand , we decided to cook together a huge tipical spanish omelet!!! We also took a walk around beatiful Estella despite of the pain in our legs!

Hot!!!

... try and beat some of the heat. This helped a lot. They are having some sort of midevil festival this week but we were too hot and sleepy to follow up on it. When we finally got to Puente la Reina, we were so beat that we just found a supermercado and then an alberge, no sight seeing because we were too tired. We made sandwiches for dinner and then, when we were half through eating, several people offered us their leftovers so ...

... trot along toward the end (in which case you will be able to follow the bulls into the arena before they shut the doors and then run around with some lesser bulls in the arena), or find a doorway or niche along the route and wait. However, the better your view is of a place where carnage is caused, the more exposed you probably are to a bull coming along the wall (rather than down the middle) or getting separated and lashing out at individuals (rather than just running along in the ...

Let´s go to Pamplona, Lisa said!

... direct towards ´a beautiful church´ or ´a roman wall´. Hmmmmm. Thanks, but I think every town in Europe could probably lay claim to at least one, and probably both of these. I was keen to take a trip into the mountains. ´You want to go to the mountains?´I get a shrug of the shoulders and a quizzical look ´there are no trips.Maybe bus, but there is only one a day´. MMM. That went well. Oddly, Pamplona has more mullet haircuts than you would find in Caboolture! Never mind. San Sebastian tomorrow.

Fiesta Sorpresa!

It was Magda´s birthday this Tuesday, her roommate organized a surprise party and I was invited to join in on the fun. It was great to be there and see the expression on her face when she arrived! She had actually been out calling her family in Poland and mentioned to me that in her hometown she always has a big celebration--she thought it was awesome that she could have a big celebration here too! These are some pictures of the fiesta!
