... market, but we only had one night there, barely enough time to enjoy the atmosphere. Compared to other markets and such, we found shopping was better in Innsbruck compared to Munich. Swarovski crystal originated here and so that was also a big shopping draw. Their most recent orb for Christmas is exquisite!
While in Munich, I took a side trip without Jon to Salzburg, Austria. I've always wanted to visit Salzburg ever since I saw the "Sound of Music". Our ...

The markets are filled with Christmas stuff and lots of other things from sparkly jewelery to wooden toys for both kids and pets. You have to look carefully to pick out the real arts and crafts from the imported junk, it is all there and I am sure it will just be more and more as the markets get bigger.

We drove from Lindau to Innsbruck. It is about a 2 hour drive without stops on mostly 4 lane road and good highways. We already had out Austrian Road sticker. We got that when we went to Lichtenstein.

Driving through the Alps is not like driving through the mountains in western Canada. The Germans and Austrians don't believe in going around a mountain if you can go through it. We figure 1/4 of our trip was in tunnels!

      ... Amsterdam is not
actually 600km but a mighty 900km and so its going to be a good long journey
      tomorrow and the following day.
The route the satnav has setup for tomorrow seems to be quite good but
somehow I'm not convinced its the normal route back to the ferry from here.
Either its getting confused or I'm getting confused. Whatever the outcome I will
      get there somehow.
Now just what did I have to drink last night in Leinz????.....canny

The Alps and Skiing on a Glacier!

After leaving Venice, we hopped on a train which took us to Innsbruck, Austria. This is in the Tirol area in the south western part of Austria. We stayed the night in Innsbruck, and made our way out to Kaunertal the next morning. Innsbruck was the first place that we were able to catch a glimpse of the Alps! These ones weren't snow covered, because they were not very tall. The closer to the glacier we got the more snow we saw! However, ...
