... of French soldiers were present tonight and played a minor role during the service. Each night has been different but very moving on every occasion. I am pleased we left our warm room to attend this service each of the three nights we have been in Ieper. Ate at a cafe across the square from Old Tom. Made the mistake of having soup and a main meal and so could not finish our dishes. Had a pleasant chat with three English ladies and then headed for the hotel about 22.15.
