... was a wall with writings of slave owners giving their slaves to Apollo when the die. This means they are free. I dedicated Rick to Apollo as we passed by. The museum was very interesting with the items they were able to find. The most important were the sphinx and bronze chariot jockey. ... We picked it up after checking the out the little church and headed back down the stairs. We met a couple from Puerto Rico and they were a lovely young couple just starting their travels. We exchanged cameras to take photos of each other and then talked about Greece. We recommended a few places to them and then we left. Apparently the tops of rocks were thought to be appropriate places for contemplation and worship and a refuge from warring and sieges below. Six monasteries remain, two are active, but it is claimed that there used to be 23. I'm unclear on when this all happened. ... climbers on the adjoining rocks. We found our group and our guide Maria handed us our entry tickets. The layout was more or less similar to Holy Trinity but it was larger and the frescoes were grander. We could only imagine what it was like in the Grand Meteora monastery.
