... We stayed overnight in a tent next to the river. The next morning the walked back to the village. Most of the group chose to go back tubing on the river, but I really like to walk in the jungle. It is so quiet but at the same time, nature is loud! On our way back, we were much faster as we didn't have to wait for everyone climbing the obstacles. ... the orangutans looking on but you can't tamper with their environment. The guides told us the name of this orangutan as Julie (I think) but the baby hadn't been named yet and one of the guides was wanting to call him Clare, 'but it's a boy' I protested but who knows the legacy may live on!

... the first 8 minutes, we had stopped for a break and were chugging liters of water. Disclaimer: our guide's calves were about as thick as a large coconut. This was no cake walk. Hill, after hill, after hill. We'd find an occasional stream to rest our feet in (or in Martha's case, jump in entirely), but most of the time we were going up through thick forests of exotic trees and plants. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who has extra-wide feet, ...

... was going to be a good sunrise as the sky was so clear we could see all the stars as we’d climbed. We were well above the clouds and you could see them all moving through the valley below and circling the volcano. In all fairness, it was an absolutely staggering view, it’s just a shame we had to see through bleary eyes after 2.5 hours sleep.
