Just when we thought Venice was the most beautiful place we would visit in Italy, Varenna may have beaten it into second place. Neither of us can get our heads round the fact that we are actually seeing what's around us. The apartment is amazing and the views from the balcony alone are worth the trip. Claire has also befriended a blind cat so we keep having to think of excuses to go and see the lady so Claire can rub the cat.

... utter delight we found a chestnut tree on that mountain. It had dropped a lot of chestnuts on the ground. Rachel and I excitedly gathered pocketfuls of them! That night we had a campfire and we had the very cozy experience of roasting chestnuts over an open fire. It was such a delightful experience, and I now forever have a memory to attach to the song "Chestnuts roasting over an open fire". Might I add, not only was it a wonderful experience, the ...

... Italian Alps and the lake. Easy to see why Ric************ and George Clooney love it here. George is not in residence at the moment but their villa on the lake is quite nice!! We hiked the past two days, shorter Monday and a good half day hike Tuesday, catching a train back. Today was spent wandering in the rain in Bellagio , a town across the lake. On to Cinque Terre tomorrow where we hope the weather gods are kind!!! Ciao to all Greg and ...

... lobby. They were so cute and explained they were on a sailing team and were with their coach. They had competed that day. I asked them all of their names and with much enthusiasm I repeated each one - loved that they had such traditional names, Giovanni, Lucca, etc. They all had such nice olive coloring, and two of them also had blonde hair. I love the variety of looks in Italians. The taxi came all too soon, I wasn't ready to leave as those kids were so fun ...

... seemed like a spa vacation and so relaxing. We had a 90 minute train to Milan and then transferred on to the train that would take us to Lake Como (a 60 minute train). As Lake Como started to come into view - it was glorious. To see the sun shining on that lake like crystals dancing on the water - again it seemed like a slice of heaven. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner in Varenna that night - a well deserved appetite had been worked up on that day! What an ...
