I've come here in search of my roots. All I have is the name of a person and the name of a town. I rent a car and go in search of my family. I am told that the person I am after is well known in the town so I just need to ask anyone and they will be able to point me in the right direction.

The night I arrive I prepare a couple of paragraphs in Romanian and review them with the woman at the hostel I have booked for the night. The first- to give to some towns ...

Drove thru some really charming villages with very interesting architecture but for whatever reason we could not stop for ...

... and there were another two people in my cabin. So, I moved to the next cabin, and asked the conductor where the beds were. He told me in broken English that there are no beds, and that I should try to sleep in place like Bugs Bunny. So, I locked the door of the cabin, and attempted to fall asleep in the seat. After about 30 minutes, a middle-aged couple entered the train at the next stop and knocked on the door of the cabin. Their assigned seats ...

There are nine painted monasteries in Romania. These monasteries are remarkable because they have murals painted on the outside of them. These murals are incredibly well-kept and preserved considering how long ago they were painted. They were painted in much the same style and feature many of the same scenes. Our group ...
