... so we had no option but to go with Lonely planets recommendation. The place was about 5km out of the main town, in the middle of nowhere. The place was a bit of a dive but cheap and as it was late, we didn't have any other options. There weren't even any restaurants near by but luckily for us a lady who ran little convenience store over the road, opened up and cooked us up some rice, veg and peanut sauce.

We hot footed it out of there the next morning and caught a 3 hour bus ...

... pay less than a fiver a night. I've taken the philosophy of a girl I used to live with, which is that a hotel should either be so cheap you just go there to sleep or so nice you don't want to leave. Mid-price hotels in Indonesia, in my experience, end up promising a lot and delivering little.

The problem with only wanting to go back to sleep is that Pangkalan Bunn is the quietest place ever. We went out to look for food at about 9p.m. and everything was shut. ...
