    ... her in the car to the apartment. It was actually a pretty nice apartment with a great view. Kardamyli is nestled in the mountains on the western coast of the Mani peninsula. To get there the roads are windy and sometimes steep with hairpin turns. Needless to say I was a little nervous, but more on that later.     ... next day... Ate dinner at a seaside restaurant that had yummy moussaka and Greek salads with bottles of local wine for 4€... Heaven. Gotta thank Gary Somers for telling us about this place.. It's fantastic and the "real" Greece . Got up really early the next day to beat the heat and go for a hike in the villages above town .     ... on an old road to take a different way back, we could see more ruined monasteries much higher up clinging to cliffs—they could have been Grand Canyon granaries, they were so high and hard to get to. Coming back down to the seaside town of Kardamyli, we walked on a steep cobbled mountainside path through the olive groves, marveling at the ancient stonework so well constructed and still doing its job brilliantly.
