... Hmm. So on we went in a minibus an hours journey through bendy roads in the mountains. We arrived in the small town of Bromo to cold mist and rain. Great, another freezing mountain climate to prolong the colds we've both been sporting since Malaysia! Out came the jumpers and trousers again; our backpacks are being turned upside down juggling hot to cold weather! We had a nice hotel with a great view of the active volcano, especially when the storm came and we watched the forks of ...

We spent our first few days chilling out in the hammocks watching monkeys come down from the jungle in the afternoons to rifle through our bins; and exploring the spectacular Bat Caves just outside the village. Having been on the road for 5 months, we welcomed the break.

Feeling rejuvenated after our chill out time we booked ourselves on a 2 day jungle trek to see orangutans (many who have been reintroduced in to the ...

You can’t see inside the caldera from the viewpoint and it doesn’t look as impressive as Batok from a distance but up close it really is impressive. Most (about 99%) of visitors just stay by the ‘viewing gallery’ then head back down but i walked along the crater rim over to the other side of ...

... bathroom and quickly got ready. Martin was in charge of the alarm which he had set half an hour late! Anyway we caught up with them and walked the 35 minute walk to the Nature Reserve. You pay 20,000 Rupiah per person and 50,000 for taking a camera. I think you are supposed to get your pass and pay the money at the visitors centre but we paid at the Nature Reserve so that was fine, I imagine they will pocket the money as the visitors centre has no way of knowing we went!
