    ... people we met along our journey, the consensus was for us to leave our car behind and jump on the city bus. For 3€ each way, we could avoid traffic, avoid finding parking and enjoy the scenery. After confirming the departure time with our hotel and being told we could pay cash on the bus, we set out.     ... and cheered. It took about a half of an hour for the horses to circle and settle down into position. When the clock tower struck 8p, the crowd started to chant, "avvia," I believe, or something like, that which means "get started."

    Finally, the race started. The rider for the "Istrice" contrada was wearing a striped outfit. He was easy to see. He actually was in the lead for most of the way. I tried to take photos and video, luckily ...
