Montenegro, the newest country in the world

... we walked out of the bathroom, we noticed a feral cat really different than regular feral cats- this one reminded me of my cousin Tracey’s- with really long back legs, no tail, and a different build. (I think they are Egyptian cats?) The cat’s back feet were even much larger than normal. I’m sure he could jump really high. We tried to pet him but he wouldn’t let us. After this we knew we were ...

Piracy in Ulcinj

... with neighboring Budva. They have a fortune at their finger tips and they don’t' even see it. What a shame.

Anyway, this is a great town that is seriously under rated. They have great beaches, incredibly nice locals, a beautiful harbor and an intriguing history. It's too bad their not marketing their city for all its pluses.

This evening we had pirates and winch’s theme party. It was fun.

... Grad (old town). It was all in ruins from an earthquake in 1975 but the setting was magical and the runins still gave you an impression of how life must have been like. The mountains were shear behind the town and you could see the blue sea out to the front. We wandered and absourbed for about an hr before hitting the road north. Miles so Far: 12464

a crawl past the Montenegro/Albania border

... to spot a furgona to Skodhra, Albania. Furgonas are the main ways of public transport around Albania, little 1970's minibuses with 3 rows of old seats and the ability to pack 15 people at one time (two sit on little stools in the trunk section). This was also our first taste of Albanian roads, like a wooden roller coaster ride at Knott's but 3 times bumpier and more exciting. And since I'm not a roller coaster person, also 3 times more nauseating. I mustered all my abilities ...

... that looked attractive and figure out if I wanted to spend more time on the way back to Dubrovnik. Arriving in Ulcinj, I had no place to stay but had read that private accommodations were plentiful. I walked across the street to an information office and a man there told me of an apartment he had. It was only 20E so I took it. The apartment sounded nice and I was tired. The town is pretty spread out and the bus station is in the boonies. The apartment had a ...

Last stop in Montenegro

... much time watching the merrymakers. Not sure exactly how I managed it, but obviously I tagged a nicely sharp rock at just the right angle while walking down the steps. It's funny how wounds can be though - I thought I'd just stubbed it (as I frequently do), until I looked down a minute later and saw blood all over my sandals. Yuck. Fortunately I was able to hobble over to a beachside fountain and wash out all the grit that lodged itself in there, and then ...

No rest for the wicked

... O - K. The Russian couple that tried to go in right after me looked equally baffled. So, I didn't really get to see much of Sveti Stefan. On the other hand, the unexpected inability to go sightseeing there meant I had most of the afternoon remaining to go elsewhere. Thus, despite expectations, I was going to be able to do what I had planned. Climbing back up the hill, I caught the next bus onwards to Bar, which happened to come within only ten minutes. 2 for ...

Where are those bloody Black Mountains?

... both of us very content to be here. We both feel like the adventure is finally about to begin on this trip. Even better, everything here is CHEAPER and thrifty Pete is on his second Espresso today and will probably be on his third soon....why not? when they cost less that 1 Euro and are delicious to boot. I'm still searching for the best cake in the Western Balkans...Kotor's bakeries look promising. I'll report back later on what ...

... it made up for in character. Still, it went in 30 minutes and I'd heard there is a good hostel in Budva, saving the need to find accommodation after arriving late at night. I'd been on worse in Asia so bring it on! Most of the trip had been traversing the alps at the borders of Kosovo, Montenegro and Serbia. With mountains higher and more jagged ...

Dubrovnik, Croatia UNESCO world heritage treasure

... Delicious. We chatted with a Brit who ended up in a pub that we popped in on our way back. His folks were visiting and we had a great time with the Dad. Talked of his and our travels. Back to the boat, napped and watched as we pulled out on our way south to Corfu, Greece. Have walked 15 laps so far-8 miles. Trying to develop some good habits. More tomorrow...from Greece.
