    ... on an old road to take a different way back, we could see more ruined monasteries much higher up clinging to cliffs—they could have been Grand Canyon granaries, they were so high and hard to get to. Coming back down to the seaside town of Kardamyli, we walked on a steep cobbled mountainside path through the olive groves, marveling at the ancient stonework so well constructed and still doing its job brilliantly.
