      The train i took to Bern was an ICE train (inter city express) and it was great. As well as having normal seating you could choose to sit in a private compartment, and once the door is closed it was unbelievably quiet, and the ride was the smoothest i have experienced in a train.

      Feeling mostly restored, we were ready for day two of hiking. Some people talking on the balcony woke us up in the middle of the night, which was a little frustrating. Dmitriy felt a little worse for the wear, but he rallied on. Today's hiking would be longer, but less strenuous. We would be hiking more along the ridge then up and down.       ... we waited for the wash to happen - the host had an Aussie accent! We sat outside in chairs covered with sheepies, but soon moved into the comfort of inside. It is not really cold, but warmth is nice. We watched a TV which had real time webcam of the Jungfrau - amazing!

      We put the wash into the dryer and headed down to the local COOP, for some drinks and nibbles. Slasher then walked me home and went back down for the dried clothes while I blogged. It is just so ...

      ... here, and our hotel (offering a balcony with a spectacular view of the mountains) reminded Sara of her grandparents' camp in the Adirondacks. We spent most of the evening drinking wine and chatting with the inn manager, and were reluctant to have to leave the next morning. We have decided to skip Zermatt, so off to Italy we go!       ... that took all of about 15mins to cross the border and through the mountain to reach Brig where I then caught a train to Betten where I then got to Gondolas to reach Bettmeralp at 1950m. A car free village.

      What can I say, it is stunning here. Fabulous views of the alps, green mountain sides, cows with giant bells and of course swiss chalets. I am staying in the annexe of one of the hotels as it was half the price if I shared ...
