... differentiate the surface of the snow because the sky was the same colour. We've been in these conditions before and they are preferred. Regardless we boarded for a good 5 hours including completing all the main runs on the western mountain and clocking 60km/h down another run. The longest run of the day was 5.6km long. You never get that in Australia :( We had a lunch break in between at the midway station restaurant. With yesterday's food, wine and service ...

... the main town of Mals. Here I come across another--much uglier--fortress: a concrete dome in the middle of the field that looks like a grim reminder of another war: World War II. ... been racing all the way up the mountain: them on bicycles and me on foot! I grab a quick bite to eat, then continue on to the south east, pausing for another video clip with another castle and the beautiful plateau of Nauders behinds me... Then, along a peaceful path, with lots of folks out and about enjoying this beautiful day high in the mountains... I suddenly spot the Italian flag waving in the breeze, welcoming me. Goodbye Austria. It was a wonderful ...

... chalet--nice spot for a videoclip. Pfunds is the last town before the big climb up to the pass into Italy, so its a bittersweet farewell. Now that I've discovered that you can sleep in a warm bed and not blow your budget here in Austria, I'm not in such a hurry to move on. But the mountain awaits me. I fix my gaze on the narrowing valley up ahead and continue down the ...
