... the road is becoming rather busy with cars which just does not seem right way out here in the wild.

Soon the road starts to climb once again and then heads over the top of a rather high mountain and there in the next valley is the large town of Livigno. The town is spread out over a large area and is just about made up of wooden buildings. It is extremely busy and soon I realise that this is more of an adventure town rather than just a town. It has all kinds of ...

Wonderful Wildspitze

A travel blog entry by rolandandlinda on Aug 28, 2014

Thursday 28 August

Moved on this morning, up the Pitztal valley, just south
of Imst. Went up to the Pitztal glacier, taking the Glacier Express(tunnel
train) followed Tyrol’s highest cable car to the restaurant at 3,440m, near the
top of the Wildspitze (3,774m). Perfect weather for a day in the snow – blue
skies and no wind.

Staying near Jerzens tonight. Had a great evening meal at
the campsite restaurant ...

Anyway we had a great time, and finished up the day with a great Wienerschnitzel meal at a local restaurant. Tonight we have to pack up for our train trip to Venice tomorrow. We're sorry to be leaving this area. There is so much great hiking here - maybe we'll be back some ...

... our hotel by around 4:30 pm, ready for showers and supper. I briefly contemplated suggesting that we go back up the Gaislachkogel gondola I and II, to the Ice Q restaurant (at over 3,000 metres) that had been our first stop up the mountain in the morning, but I don't have the right wardrobe for that place! Another highlight of the day: my approximately 2 metres of "via ferrata" to get to the cross at the top of ...

Rainy Skies

A travel blog entry by rolandandlinda on Aug 26, 2014

Tuesday 26 August

Rained all through the night, non-stop. Fridge still
refusing to fire on LPG. Weather forecast for the day is not good, and not much
better at this altitude until Thursday so we have decided to head off and down.
Checked out, with a charge for the electricity of 2.7Kw. Their PC chart showed
the fridge started on electricity at 1600, 25 Aug through to 0900 26 Aug, with
a setting of 2 bars and a cool ...
