Today we just got back from the most incredible rock beach. The rock was solid formations of bleached white stone, rising in cliffs and leaning into the clear blue sea. The water was warm and the sun was way to hot. The bus system here requires us to shell out about ten euros a day to get around, but its worth it. From camping last night (in the sometimes unsleepable heat!), we woke up and bused into town and then to the Sarakini (the rock beach.) Our camera ran out of batteries ...
Milos, Cyclades, Greece aaronandmirna... risk you being swept in the sea!
By the next day the Meltemi winds were so bad that you could not go to the beach because of the blowing sands. So, we found a small bar near the beach where we could play Canasta, use our computer, and drink wine. The owner of the bar turned out to me a middle aged American woman from Tulsa, Oklahoma. She had come to Greece for a summer during college and stayed for 25 years! She and her Greek husband ran the bar and enjoyed living on Sifnos ...
... green stones native to the island. The streets intersect at several beautiful and very small town squares lined with small outdoor taverns which are draped in colorful bougainvillea flowers and shaded with a couple of large trees. This small town is the classic, picturesque example of the beauty of the Greek islands. At night, the older locals gather in the squares to gossip while the children run around and play games. We watched it ...
Folegandros, Cyclades, Greece johnandrich... as a mode of transportation.
Agios Georgios Beach:
We continued on our journey till the very northern tip of the island to a beach called Argios Georgios. This is a nice sandy beach and very quiet, probably due to its distance from the main hub of Chora. It was nice to have the whole beach to ourselves, save for only a few other couples. We stayed at the beach for ...
... with air-conditioning and wide screen television up the front.
Upon arrival at the port in Folegandros, we joined the other tourists to take the local bus from the Port to the centre of the island, a village called Chora. Argi had carefully selected and booked a room for us in Hotel Castro, situated in the centre of Chora, inside the
ancient castle wall of the island.

Plaka, Greece lindsey-canada... to the mountain where there is a church. The only problem was that we did not know how to get up there. After many efforts we end up heading up a goat path with the car. I was so nervous we were making turns with no barrier stopping us from driving off the edge the pictures don't do it justice how steep the road was. The view on top were unbelievable.
Sifnos, Cyclades, Greece corr... sunset Day 2: went to Oia, where the best view of the sunset can be seen. But was ruined by thick mist Day 3: Volcano tour. Walked down 600!! stairs to the port, got on a cool sailboat that carted us to the volcano. Hiked for about 20 min to the top to see the crater and the view. Sleeped like a baby Day 4(current): Rented ATV's!!!!!!!!! These rock ...
Santorini, Greece renizenz... reaction was hilarious. Chad looked up, laughed, looked at Bill, and then immediately returned to his magazine. Bill, seeing us coming, moved his book lower to avoid eye contact and began to chuckle. The second beach we went to was sandier and nudism was prohibited. We grabbed some snacks and enjoyed the view. The third stop was purely to enjoy the sunset. We had some umbrella drinks, beers, and ouzo and watched a beautiful sunset over Ios. That night, we had dinner with our ...
Ios, Greece the_stamms... exploring the medieval city within the walls and trinket shopping. I asked a shopkeeper for a name of a good beach and he scribbled something down in Greek for me to give to the taxi driver. The beach turned out to be about 15 minutes from town and took us on a tour of modern Rhodes and by the huge Jewish cemetery; Rhodes has a long history as a Jewish community. The beach was perfect. All of the shops, restaurants, and hotels were closed because the season doesn't ...
