Marseille

Really beautiful train ride along the coast (which in a way it is a shame that the railway is right on the beach) Marseille is a bigger city and not so quaint but the port area is nice. Flew out of Marseille to Lisbon. I know not quite geographically logicall

Life lessons

... fight, as I make my way to Cours Julien, the main pedestrian/ night life area.

I push through the crowded streets, and find a well lit area to sit and watch. Cours Julien is split down the middle by a modest smattering of green space, fountains, and children's playgrounds. Its already late, but a few children still play on the swings and slides. However, the playgrounds are mostly dominated by groping teenagers.

On either side, crowded restaurants, cafes and ...

Jonny, Jonny, give us a wave!

... Danni! But at more than half the price of the train, we weren’t complaining...and we definitely weren’t when we got a look at Wilko’s thighs! So we arrived early to give us a chance to look around Toulon. We headed straight for the port for breakfast; croissants, bread, butter, jam, orange juice and hot chocolate, and then had a scout around the market before deciding to go out on one of the tourist boats (to make a change from the little trains ...

France sucks at Halloween

... in devil ears, 1 batman, 1 Spiderman, a copule dudes in masks, 2 girls with just some random fake blood on their face, 3 poorly represented Village people, and a guy who we think was Peter Pan, but he had cardboard fairy wings so we're not sure. All in all, Halloween ended up being a pretty fun night, but we certainly missed being home for this day! Now we are off to the Rhone Valley for some great wine... in a CAR! Stay tuned.

Amorous or Foolhardy?

... Argh! I tried to get him to go up into the town and explore, but I couldn’t drag him further than a few blocks - worry that we needed to be back in time…?!?!

Finally around 4, they opened the gate so we could drive in. Only to find the ticket office didn’t open until 6pm. While waiting, we talked with a lovely Frenchcouple who were completely unperturbed at our lack of language ...

Over a month in...

... Enjoyed the film (but enjoyed the post-cinema demi-fraise - beer with strawberry syrup - more) and was proud at how well I managed to follow the French, without much concentration! A sign of improvement I hope!

This weekend in particular has been fantastique! As everyone else's parents have come to visit, Amy and I spent our Saturday shopping, eating and generally having a good time without alcohol. As usual, I got very excited about a sweet shop and between us we ...

Antrą kartą is eilės.. Antrajame kempinge mums rekomendavo La Ciotat miestelį, esantį uz 10 kilometrų nuo Cassis ir esantį rytojaus planuose. Sakė, kad ten yra bent 4 kempingai. Bandom.

Life is rough in the South of France...

... in France! It was pretty good...served with French fries and mayonnaise. That wasn't my favorite but the crème brullee for dessert was pretty good. A "typical" French meal. Haha. I met up with Elise and Issiakah in the Place de la Republique. He was running laps around the obelisk in the center so I told him that if he ran faster around it the second time, I would buy him a dessert. He did it! We'll have a date at the patisserie one of these days.

Fjords and Fire

Today I rode a boat. I don't know why I always forget how wonderful it is to be on boats. It is one of the singlemost wonderful feelings in the world. After school, lots of us piled on a bus and drove to Cassis which has got to be one of the cutest coastal towns in southern France. We took a little tourist train down into the town and then took a boat to see the Fjords. Le Mistral was still in full force, so the waves began ...
