... As this road is not treated for snow or ice it had hard packed ice patches all along the way. On a number of occasions I had to kill the engine and get my feet down and simply use the rear wheel as braking and control it by use of the clutch and just edge along at very slow speed. In situations such as this one thing one must not do is touch front brakes.

Its now getting dark and trying to see on this tiny twisty road is not good. Lucky for me much of it is dry ...

Walked around up top, but being on slippery ice next to steep slopes is not my idea of fun, we looked around and went into the lovely town of Misurina and had lunch. Day 286 6 hrs, 4.6 kms Day totals: 16 hrs, 21.1 kms The train continues on down the valley, past miles of apple orchards. But these aren't like the apple orchards I'm used to seeing in Pennsylvania, USA. Here the trees are more like narrow bushes, spaced and cut with precision so farm vehicles can go between the rows and workers can pick straight from the truck. No ladders needed here. Interesting to see an Italian orchard ...

... On this morning he first asked us to do a walk-through of the house with him to take a look at the projects that needed to be finished before we returned next spring. He gave us some interesting feedback, not the least of which is a glimmer of hope that if we were to remove the paint from the ceiling of the living room and downstairs bedroom we may find brickwork. If this were the case, he explained, we could have it sandblasted and have a lovely old Italian brick ceiling. The ...
