We had a long, winding drive through the deep forest where we came across maybe two cars in a matter of 45 minutes. This had both of us a little on edge wondering if we were going to come to a road closure because earlier in the drive we saw some signs with X marks through them...again. We made it out of the mountains (phew!) and back to civilization. We drove through quite a few small, run down towns but managed to see the charm in all of them. We got to Eger and had a ...

... in nice contained stone lined channels. This town holds the local rescue and learning center for the Hucul horses. This breed lives mostly wild within the park, though they are small and like to lie down so finding them in the park can be difficult. We went to check out the possibility of riding the horses, but we learned when we arrived that the woman in charge was at lunch. As we decided whether or not to wait, we walked back into the stable area to ...

... we saw offered cheese platters. There were restaurants but these are completely separate to the cellars at the bottom of the hill. I reckon they could definitely make a killing and differentiate themselves by expanding and offering food and wine pairing or other gourmet snack foods. But that said, then it wouldn't be as unique. It was a completely different wine valley experience to any other we've ever had, a tonne of fun, and a great way to end our time in Hungary. And with that, ...
