Choking traffic

The ride to Malang was exceptionally mellow. Our non-English speaking driver calmly passed fruit-laden trucks after waiting for a painfully traffic clearing. We were greeted in Malang by more lovely tree-lined streets and choking traffic. After spending about an hour in the choking traffic we arrived at the ruins of Candi Singosari. ... just finished and the sound of the roaring river grew stronger. Rounding our last corner we were greeting by the raging river and couldn't be happier to strip out of our soaking wet sweaty clothes and go swimming. It takes a little while to locate the permit office and then to find someone to write our permits, but one typewriter later we're walking 2km up the river toward the national park entrance. We arrive early and are pulley'd across the river in a small boat, we wait for about 20 mins and we are entertained by many long tailed macaques or cheeky monkeys as the locals call them ...

Are we there yet?!

... later, we arrived at the bus station in Probolinggo. It was already late afternoon, so there were no more public buses (mini-vans) going up to Cemoro Lawang. Normally, you have to wait until the van is full (around 10 people) to get going. When we arrived where these vans are parked, there was only one American guy waiting for more people. We talked and he had been waiting for an hour or so but no one had arrived. We were the only ones. While we waited ...
