... tires slashed. Apparently this is good business in Porto because they were everywhere but luckily we managed to do all our parking not only for free but away from the gypsies.
The next day we decided to do some Port tours. Porto is on the Ocean and has a bay/river that flows into it, cutting it in half. On one side of the water is all the Port Chateaus. From the other side of the water you can see all the names of the chateaus written in big white ...
... bad. Port is a fortified wine that is mixed with Brandy to halt the fermentation, so in many of the less expensive wines the balance is poorly done and it tastes and smells like off Brandy. However, if you can splurge on a glass of vintage or lbv port, you'll be pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the nicer ones quite a bit, but as it's very sweet it's something I could only enjoy a bit at a time.
After a few days in Porto I was fortunate enough to meet someone on ...

Porto, Northern Portugal, Portugal cariverga... are. The distilleries were surprisingly accessible, with all of them offering tours of the caves and tastings, for a fee of course. We were only able to visit a couple (Porto seems to close for 2 hours during lunch) before catching our evening flight out, but we are glad to have tried some new and very interesting kinds of port. Thank you Portugal, we will be back to see more.
Porto, Northern Portugal, Portugal tommcatt... We arrived safely thanks to these total strangers. He advised us not to take the caravan into Porto.
The next day we went on the bus to Porto and discovered why. The 8 kilometer journey took about an hour as the bus travelled in ever decreasing circles through streets normally impassable to a bus without the use of a horn and the assistance of disgruntled lorry and car drivers who had to backup. On arriving in Porto feeling shaken and stirred we discovered a ...
... the better part of an hour looking for any restaurant that was opened. Our meals were : a tuna salad (a can of tuna, unrippened tomatoes and lettuce) and pork (a peice of pork, rice and french fries.) Long story short we were more then enthusiastic to get on the road in the morning to leave Porto behind
Porto, Northern Portugal, Portugal sofenjon... previous itinerary. All along the roads grapes grow - not as we know them in tamed, wired rows, but randomly, luxuriantly, wound up telephone poles, creeping along the ground or providing shade cover for the vegetable fields marked by crumbling stone walls. On the flat, if there isn't a house, a tumble down stone cottage or an onion-domed church on it the land is thick with corn, potatoes, tee-pees of runner beans, artichokes, broccoli and cabbages, all planted ...
Amarante, Portugal hdh... atmosphere at V.Nova than in Porto itself. Next tour was Calem, lady was kind of strict with the tour time and questions, but I liked one of the ports I tried. Met some more Canadians at the table as well. Then I had time for one more tour so I caught the last english one at Offley Forrester. Guide was super. Lots of details, but I didn´t care for their ports. At least the two I tried I found too sweet. Then it was back across the bridge to Porto. Just as I was walking down the Cais de ...
