Public transport - buses run all over and are efficient and inexpensive. Dont be put of by hostel receptions telling you to take a cab...

Car Hire - It is soooo common in Costa Rica. Had I known this before I would have lost all inhibitions and hired to get to some remote locations. Fully trustworthy.
