After a lazy morning, we had lunch in Balk at a little fish shop by the river.
Then we went to Lemmer
This little harbour on Friesland has been the destination of our family for many a trip. Papa used to sail from here on his friend's yacht. So we often came to visit, when they were getting ready to leave or when they had just returned.

So we were one of the 9500 vehicles that cross this amazing feat of engineering every day.
After a cup of coffee - the Dutch do a lovely milky coffee they call "Kaffee verkeerd" - and a bite to eat, we returned over the dam and had a quick look at Makkum.

We had a little walk (you could circumnavigate the place in 30 min.) and took lots of pictures.
We knew the village from when we were children. We have been here many times.
But this house we are staying in, is on a new estate. Well it is 20 years old maybe. And we are enjoying the modern facilities.
Must to a picture tour through the house. But since Stan fell through his bed and now has mine, I am awake and up too early.

... also noticed that there were large green fields of crops, and strangely enough we could see boat masts protruding from them. obviously the canals ran through the crops, strange to see though.
Our first impression was this mass of water, and lots of sheep poo. Took lots of photos and dodged the sheep poo as this is where they like grazing. I guess the sheep love it as the grass is always nice and green. Robert went for a bit of ...
