After breakfast we headed out to walk along Lake Baikal...well some of it anyway. Apparently it's over 600 km long, over a mile deep and holds around 20% of the world's unfrozen fresh water! Because of it's size it freezes very very late compared to other lakes. In fact it is so big that it affects the climate of the surrounding area. Anyway even with lake Baikal acting as our radiator it was stil fairly nippy, but beautiful scenery! We walked along the shore ...
Train of thought
... to drink to desinfect. By now the whisky feels like second nature (I drank two sips, no worries) and I start packing my bag while my friend obviously is hitting on our compartment neighbour who watches a movie with him. They leave the compartment so I can sleep... Yeah right. I sleep again like somebody suffering from serious jetlag. Lake Baikal
... which is a fish native only to the lake here and it's smoked. It stinks and he's welcome to it. I think I'll stick to the rice. Omul is everywhere, being sold in the small local market and also on most street corners by hardy Russian ladies. We are hoping to have a Banyan tomorrow which is a Russian sauna type thing, there is one here at the hostel! Then we are off on Saturday morning to Irkutsk, ready to board the train to Mongolia! Sleepless in Siberia
... to our room and eat off our laps like naughty school kids, oh how we wish we had just stayed on the train to Vladivostok!
The next day we managed to get some useful information out of our hostel so that we could find the bus to Listvynyanka and the office to book our train journey so off we set again and this time we even managed to get the right tram.
