... dark by now (5.30pm) - Cheryl more than annoyed that I pulled over and went for a quick walk in the dark through the road end of the cemetery. Different again but just as huge as other cemeteries we had visited. A few quick photos and back into the car for the last leg back to car park. A glass of wine, rest (Cheryl grabbed 40 winks) and a refreshing shower before heading out for our last chance to attend Men in Gate Service. Clear skies outside but not quite as cold as last night. ...

Unfortunately Belgian opening times thwarted my attempts to see Christ's dried blood and Michelangelo's sculpture of Madonna & child, but walking around, seeing the canal & various metal sculptures, yeah, twas nice. ... 8211; it was absolutely breathtaking. There were groups of primary school kids playing games in circles, shouting at each other and laughing. The buildings stretched up and around us like we had entered some kind of magical kingdom. Amazing.

Last stop was a chocolaterie, where we bought a few pieces of filled chocolate. The perfect end to a few of the most exhausting days I’ve ever had in my life. Totally worth it.

More to come. Off to Venice ...
