... Aires and Colonia are on the coast of a very wide estuary (like the Hawkesbury only bigger) and I expected the large expanse would be salty water. The volume of water coming down the river means that it's not until Montevideo that the water starts to turn brackish. Incidentally upstream on the same river, which changes names a few times, is the Iguazu Falls.
