... has been "resettling" them to the outskirts of town as they are trying to develop the area. The Gypsies are essentially squatters so their rights are limited. They do not attend school and the girls are expected to have children as soon as physically possible. It makes one wonder at the randomness of where you are born and the position you are born into. Fast forward 20 years: Yugoslavia is divided into more than 7 countries and autonomous states, after multiple wars within. Belgrade is now the capital of Serbia. The racial tension still flares up in some areas.In Belgrade we pass a building that was bombed by NATO reminding us how recently this place was a war-zone.

... your Christmas time fruit cake – this cake had a biscuit base, fresh raspberries and a cheese like filling – but, it wasn’t cheesecake!!!

A bus ride back to Belgrade and more traditional food for dinner, we eventually rolled back to our hostel and into our beds. Thank you Serbia for our full tummies!
