Belgium is a favourite so far! The town is beautiful - feels like we're in a storybook. Poppies are everywhere. There is evidence all over town of John McCrae's poem. Today we had a few hours of free time so Josh and I took in the Flander's Field Museum and sought out some Belgian chocolate - so good! ... of 15 minutes our room was FLOODED!! Luckily all of our belongings were stored in storage boxes that were elevated off the floor but there was still a significant amount of water in our room. Turns out that a tap in the bathroom next door was left on and had flooded the bathroom, the hallway, our room and was even running down the stairs. From there we went to a boutique chocolate shop - Calinor - for the compulsory chocolate purchase. May have one or two tonight.
We went to Vivaldi restaurant for a typical Belgium dinner - Vlaumse Runds Stover, frietjes and salade = beef stew, fries and salad = delicious. I had a St Bernardus Pater 6 beer. A dark beer but not as dark as NZ beer.
